The District Court was established via Notification No.SD 2004 CET 64, Bangalore, Dated: 25th August 1964. The District Court, Chitradurga commenced its operations on 1 October 1964. The foundation stone for the court complex was laid on 2 August 1965, by Sri. S.Nijalingappa, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Mysuru, under the presidency of Hon’ble Mr. Justice H.Hombegowda, Hon’ble Chief Justice, High Court of Karnataka, Bangalore.
The court complex in Chitradurga was Inaugurated by Hon’ble Sri. Justice Somanath Iyer, Chief Justice of Mysuru on 7 December 1969 under the presidency of Sri. Nijalingappa, president of All India Congress Committee. The total number of Taluks in Chitradurga is 6 viz., Hiriyur, Hosadurga, Molakalmuru, Holalkere, and Challakere.
